My timeline for David Lapham's Young Liars has been updated to include the fourteenth issue, which came ou. Warning: the spreadsheet contains spoilers. Don't forget to visit the original post for some analysis and a response from David Lapham himself.
Even more spoilers in the analysis after the jump...
I don't have a ton to say about the new dates in issue #14. I have one observation, and two questions for my readers.
Observation: The latest story arc for YL is structured very similarly to the first arc. In those issues, Lapham repeatedly flashed back to the traumatic moment when Danny shot Sadie. In the current arc, we've now flashed forward* twice to another traumatic moment in which Danny and Sadie are trapped in a garage with a ticking time bomb. Having read just two issues of the current arc, I'm probably pointing this out prematurely, but I want to be able to say "I called it" and increase my, um, internet forum cred, or something.
Question #1: I think I may have chickened out last time when I refused to place issues 9, 11, and 12. They don't have firm dates, but I could probably at least place them relative to the other issues. Adding them without dates, however, would make the spreadsheet less sortable. Does anyone anticipate sorting this spreadsheet?
Question #2: I'm considering adding a release date column to the spreadsheet. I'm fairly certain that the date of issue #1 was that edition's street date. With the latest arc taking place in our future, I've been curious to explore how Lapham plays with the idea of "the present" throughout Young Liars. Do folks think this would be useful data to have?
*Technically, the issues start in November of '09 and then flashback to the summer. But since the majority of the issues is set in "the past" -- though still in our future -- I think saying "flash forward" is easiest.
